即使...也 expresses that even if a condition is true (or becomes true), the result will still be the same. It shows determination, inevitability, or concession.
Hypothetical concession - Even if X happens, Y still applies
Determination - No matter what, the result will not change
Factual concession - Even though X is true, Y is still the case
Even if it rains, I will still go.
Can be used for both hypothetical and real situations, unlike 虽然 which is only for facts.
即使 for hypothetical, 虽然 for facts
- 即使他不来，我也会去 (hypothetical - he might not come)
- 虽然他没来，我还是去了 (fact - he did not come)
也 can be replaced by 还是 or 仍然 for emphasis
就是...也 is a colloquial variant with the same meaning
Even if it rains, I will still go.
Even if you fail, still do not give up.
Even though very tired, he still keeps working.
