〜ところ indicates the timing of an action - about to do, doing now, or just finished.
Vる + ところ - about to do
Vている + ところ - in the middle of
Vた + ところ - just finished
I am about to eat now.
Verb form determines timing
- 食べるところ = about to eat
- 食べているところ = eating now
- 食べたところ = just ate
ところに/ところへ = at that moment
- 出かけるところに電話が来た
ところで = by the way (different usage)
