-기 nominalizes verbs/adjectives - turning actions into noun forms that can be subjects or objects.
With 쉽다/어렵다 - 읽기 쉬워요 (easy to read)
With 좋다/싫다 - 운동하기 싫어요 (dont want to exercise)
Listing activities - 수영하기, 달리기 (swimming, running)
With 전에/후에 - 먹기 전에 (before eating)
Attaches directly to verb/adjective stems.
Different from -는 것
- -기 is more fixed/abstract: 읽기 (reading as activity)
- -는 것 is more specific: 읽는 것 (the thing being read)
