使役形 (causative) means "make" or "let" someone do something.
Formation:
• う-verbs: う → あせる (書く → 書かせる)
• る-verbs: る → させる (食べる → 食べさせる)
• Irregular: する → させる, くる → こさせる
The parents made their child eat vegetables.
を marks forced action, に marks permitted action.
を = make (coercion), に = let (permission)
- 子供を行かせた (made the child go)
- 子供に行かせた (let the child go)
させてください for polite requests
- 説明させてください (Please let me explain)
Causative-passive させられる = "was made to"
- 野菜を食べさせられた (I was made to eat vegetables)
