〜てほしい means "I want (someone) to do X." Used when you want another person to perform an action.
Requests/wishes - Wanting someone to do something
Desires about others'' actions - Often softer than direct requests
I want you to come soon.
Person doing the action is marked with に: 彼に手伝ってほしい
Person marked with に
- 彼に来てほしい (I want him to come)
Negative: てほしくない
- 行ってほしくない (I don''t want you to go)
Different from たい — たい is for your own actions, てほしい is for others''
I want you to tell me the truth.
I don't want him to come.
