〜てみる means "try doing" something to see what happens or what it is like. It combines て-form with 見る (to see).
Formation: Verb て-form + みる
This book looks interesting, so I will try reading it.
Uses:
Experimentation - やってみて、だめならやめる (try it, quit if it fails)
(why don't you ask?)
Common patterns:
Want to try
Try (request)
If you try / when I tried
Even if you try
Nuance:
てみる implies curiosity or openness to the outcome, not just doing something.
てみる = try (to see what happens)
Different from trying hard
- 頑張る = make effort
Often with suggestion:
Please try eating this dish.
I will give it a try!
When I tried asking, I understood.
