밖에 means "only" or "nothing but" and must be followed by a negative verb (안, 못, 없다, 모르다).
Limited quantity - 돈이 천 원밖에 없어요 (I only have 1000 won)
Limited options - 이것밖에 못 해요 (I can only do this)
Emphasizes scarcity - Stronger/more emphatic than 만
Always implies "unfortunately only" or "regrettably limited to."
MUST use negative verb
- ✅ 물밖에 없어요 (There is only water)
- ❌ 물밖에 있어요
Different from 만
- 만 is neutral: 물만 마셔요 (I drink only water)
- 밖에 implies limitation: 물밖에 없어요 (There is nothing but water)
Negative verbs include: 없다, 안, 못, 모르다
There are only 10 minutes left.
I only know English.
