不就一点小事吗?(Isnt it just a small matter?)
不就...吗 is a rhetorical question pattern meaning "isn't it just...?" It implies something is obvious, simple, or not a big deal.
Isn't this just what you wanted?
Two main uses:
1. Pointing out the obvious:
Isn't the answer right here?
2. Downplaying something:
It's just being a few minutes late, right? Don't be angry.
Tone note: This pattern can sound dismissive or slightly impatient. Use carefully - it implies the listener should already know or shouldn't make a fuss about something.
Always include 是
- ✅ 不就是一个游戏吗
- ❌ 不就一个游戏吗
Tone depends on what follows
- Reassuring: + 我帮你 / 别担心
- Dismissive: + 有什么好...的
Too casual for formal contexts — use in conversations with friends/family
Isn't it just an exam? Don't be nervous.
Isn't it just moving house? I'll help you.
Isn't this just the job you've always wanted?
Isn't it just buying a bag? What's there to struggle over?
